Jordan's Kitchen Cooking Class: COOKING FAMILY STYLE

  • Buttermilk biscuits with Cowgirl Creamery fromage blanc and cherry tomato jam
  • Farro and roasted summer vegetable salad with mushrooms and salsa verde
  • Mustard and herb rubbed whole pork loin with grilled peach salsa
  • Date and cardamom cake with almonds and plum compote

I love eating family style both at home and in restaurants. It simplifies plating (and dishes) without limiting your creativity and ability to serve beautiful food. In fact, I find platters of sliced meats, roasted seasonal vegetables, fresh baked breads and salads to exude abundance. In the summer time when we tend to eat dinner later and want to chill more, family style is the way to go. You can serve all three dishes at once on a few platters or large bowls and just spend hours at the table. The tomato jam that goes with the biscuits is something you’ll want to make a lot of, it’s addictive and stores well in the fridge. Same goes for the grilled peach salsa and plum compote for dessert, both are extremely versatile. This will be a great summer feast so bring a good bottle or two of wine.
